Lustrous and just mid ruby. A fine but subdued red-fruit nose with a suggestion of talcum powder, but still rather closed. Subdued on the palate too, but at the same time transparent and elegant with coating, finely ground tannins. Elegant, very fresh and filigreed fruit, persistent tannins. - Walter Speller
Deep, dark black-red, though now clear and not opaque. Lots og berry-spice refinement, a little roast meat, warm leather: complex, multilayered aromas that draw the drinker into the glass. Ample sensual appeal here. In the mouth, the wine is deep, textured, almost plush, though Barolo tannins have an intrinsic dryness that require “plush” to be set in context. This is very dense still, and very young, but has splendid layering to it. It’s not just fruity, either, but also has some of the vegetal notes of noble Nebbiolo at its ripest. A fine and complex blend that really does sum up the appeal of “the whole place.” After the wine has had som air, it grows even more layered and expressive, yet even more gracious and stealthy, too. Utterly compelling classicism here. - Andrew Jefford
Perfumed berry, pine-forest, rose and menthol aromas mingle together on this fragrant, stunning red. It's classically crafted, full bodied and loaded with finesse, delivering juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry, mint and star anise set against taut refined tannins. It's nicely balanced, with bright acidity and youthful tension. - Kerin O'Keefe
The Figli Luigi Oddero 2016 Barolo is a wine of enormous depth and character. It delivers the best of the Nebbiolo playlist with sultry dark fruit at its core followed by lifted or high-toned aromas of dark spice, licorice, candied orange peel and spent embers. The aromatic intensity of the wine is fitted to the underlying power and focused tightness of the mouthfeel. This classic Barolo represents a blend of fruit from four sites spread over three comuni: Rive in La Morra, Scarrone in Castiglione Falletto and both Baudana and Broglio in Serralunga d'Alba. - Monica Larner
Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Spicy cherry nose with minerally hints of iron. Firm tannins upholstered with sappy cherry fruit. The tannins are a tad drying on the finish, and the palate ends a little austerely, but this wine conveys a distinct Nebbiolo message and needs more age to transmit this clearly - Walter Speller
Camphor, rose, brown spice and wild herb aromas mingle with an earthy whiff of new leather. Round and juicy, the savory palate doles out raspberry compote, ripe Morello cherry, star anise and cinnamon alongside polished tannins. Delicious and already approachable, it will also provide years of enjoyment. - Kerin O'Keefe
The 2015 Barolo is perfumed, silky and gracious, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking over the next handful of years. At times, the straight Barolo is just a touch fleeting, but it is nevertheless very pretty, especially within its peer group. This is nicely done. - Antonio Galloni
Reflective of the warm vintage, the 2011 Barolo opens to dark garnet intensity over a mid-weight consistency that veers slightly toward the heftier and richer side of the Nebbiolo spectrum. The bouquet produces a generous flow of dark berry aromas followed by spice, tobacco, prune and ripe fruit. - Monica Larner
Aromas of rose, crushed herb, red berry and a balsamic note take shape in the glass. Elegant, fresh and poised, the palate offers black raspberry, red cherry baking spice and a hint of licorice framed in youthful but polished tannins. Drink 2020–2028.
The enticing bouquet suggests rose, exotic spice, red berries and a whiff of cedar. It's vibrant, with an impressive depth of flavors including wild cherry, black pepper, tobacco and a hint of vanilla supported by a tannic backbone and fresh acidity. There's real power and elegance here. - Kerin O'Keefe
