Fra den flotte årgang 2008, der fra starten nok blev regnet for værende for let, men som har vist sig at udvikle sig helt fantastisk og give meget rene, transparente vine med en utrolig balance, friskhed, lethed, elegance og parfume.

The 2016 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fournaux was protected by cloud cover from the frost unlike the upper reaches of vineyard. It has an engaging, very pure and slightly floral bouquet with red cherries, bilberry and briary scents, a cold stone aroma tucked underneath. The palate is very harmonious with very fine tannin, the whole bunch lending a slight earthiness toward the finish that lingers. This is such an impressive wine in the context of the growing season. - Neal Martin

Last tasted from tank, the Bize 2008 Savigny-les-Beaune Les Fornaux features penetrating, high-toned scents of sour cherry, kirsch, and almond extract; juicy, tart cherry and salted meat stock on a firm but fine-grained palate; and a stimulating, prolonged finish. I suspect that there will be further nuance here with time, and at least a decade’s worth of interest. - David Schildknecht


The 2014 Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru les Fourneaux has a well defined bouquet: cranberry and raspberry fruit, a touch of cold stone, and more energy and vitality than conveyed by the 2014 Serpentières. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, balanced with supple red berry fruit, and a fine structure that offers focus and length. - Neal Martin
