Gevrey-Chambertin 1.cru Corbeaux, Rossignol-Trapet

"Domaine Rossignol-Trapet is a producer that has improved dramatically in recent years and to be honest, that is all the more pleasing to see because Nicolas and David Rossignol are two of the nicest winemakers you can meet."
Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate - december 2015

here are three barrels of the 2016 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Corbeaux this year, one of those new, including two-thirds whole bunch fruit. This was not touched by the frost, and you can tell by the nose that has more vigor and energy than some of Rossignol-Trapet's other cuvées, lively strawberry and Morello cherry scents combined with light limestone scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, harmonious and crisp in the mouth, tensile with a precise, mineral-driven finish. It is not a powerful Gevrey, almost the antithesis of a so-called "blockbuster," but it translates its terroir with style. - Neal Martin

(from 40+-year-old vines): Good full red. Aromatic scents and flavors of red raspberry, rose petal and minerals accented by peppery herbs. Juicy, brisk and on the lean side, offering decent intensity and an energizing note of blood orange. Finishes savory and tight, with slightly dry-edged tannins. This wine from colder, compact-clay soil typically ages well, notes David Rossignol. - Stephen Tanzer

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin Corbeaux 1er Cru has a more open-knit, red fruit-driven bouquet than Rossignol-Trapet's other Premier Crus; there are red rose/floral aromas emerging with time in the glass. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with cranberry and strawberry fruit, and a sense of rigidity with respect to the tannin that frame a masculine, gently grippy finish. Give this 2-3 years in bottle before reaching for the waiter's friend. - Neal Martin
