Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles, Louis Michel

The vines for Louis Michel's Grenouilles are from a rocky, sunnier site higher up on the slope. The vines here always benefit from a gentle breeze, adding to the concentration coming from these 70-75 year-old vines. A very long, elegant and profound expression of Grenouilles. This has a fine balance between sweetness of ripe fruit and spice notes to finish. - Andy Howard MW

The 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles is also very attractive, revealing aromas of pear, fresh peach, white flowers, citrus blossom, freshly baked bread and nutmeg. Full-bodied, rich and layered, it's a deep, concentrated wine, with more flesh on its bones than the sensual, refined Vaudésir. - William Kelley

The 2018 Chablis Grenouilles Grand Cru has a complex nose with scents of crushed stone, Chinese white tea and light pressed white flower aromas. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening, one of the most powerful and intense 2018 Chablis that I have tasted, delivering layers of lightly honeyed fruit laced with spice toward the finish. What it lacks in nervosité, it compensates with sheer hubris! - Neal Martin

Wafting from the glass with aromas of yellow orchard fruit, peach, white flowers and honeycomb, the 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles is medium to full-bodied, textural and enveloping, with a deep and voluminous core of fruit, ripe but racy acids and a long, mineral finish. - William Kelley

Meget mere.

- Niels Lillelund
Mingling notes of fresh peach, yellow apples and dried white flowers with aromas of honeycomb and fresh pastry, it's full-bodied, layered and textural, with a satiny attack that segues into a deep, concentrated mid-palate, underpinned by racy acids and concluding with a bright finish. - William Kelley

Domaine bottlings of this grand cru are comparatively rare, such is the dominance of the La Chablisienne co-operative. This unoaked example is delicious, showing real zip and zest with crunchy pear and citrus flavours. - Tim Atkin MW

The Grenouilles is quite ripe in profile, but it’s nonetheless more classic in style than Les Clos, with a pretty nose of citrus zest, white flowers, iodine and oyster shell. On the palate the wine is glossy and nicely concentrated, with a ripe core of fruit but a bright, tensile line of acidity and good grip on the long, sappy finish.

Light-medium yellow. Ripe, slightly musky aromas of white peach, apple and flowers. Offers a captivating touch of sweetness on entry, then lively and tight in the middle palate, showing good citrussy penetration. But less thick than the Vaudésir and a bit streamlined today. Finishes tight and dry, with a positive bitterness. - Stephen Tanzer

Pale yellow. Inviting aromas of ripe yellow fruits, tangy citrus zest and wild herbs. Larger-scaled and rounder than the foregoing premier crus, with a strong spice character intensifying and lifting the stone fruit flavors. The most voluminous of these 2014s to this point but not yet filled in. Finishes lightly dusty and persistent. - Stephen Tanzer
