Ingen fad.

The 2020 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is taut and concentrated, unwinding in the glass with aromas of freshly baked bread, clear honey, confit citrus, orchard fruit and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's a serious wine that will reward bottle age. William Kelley

Pale lemon yellow. Power once again is evident from the outset. But strict enough and with admirable tension at the back, the marine minerals doing their job. A wealth of flavour here and with real grip. This keeps building in the aftertaste. Excellent! - Jasper Morris MW

The 2019 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is more backward on the nose than its peers, yet it is still delineated and focused. A light oyster shell note emerges with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, quite tensile and focused, with a touch of bitter lemon on the entry, if just missing a little nerve on the finish. Fine. - Neal Martin

The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre opens in the glass with notes of pear, green apple, wet stones, iodine and fresh pastry. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's taut and concentrated, with bright acids and a long, saline finish. - William Kelley

The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre is clean and precise on the nose, perhaps more in the vein of a traditional Chablis than, say, the Butteaux. The palate is fresh and lively with crisp acidity, impressive tension and a twist of sour lemon toward the finish that keeps this Chablis alert and alive. Excellent. - Neal Martin

The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is another success this year, delivering inviting aromas of citrus zest, crisp green apple, white flowers and oyster shell. Medium to full-bodied, with good depth and tension, it's one of the more tightly wound, structured wines in the cellar. - William Kelley

The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is showing well from bottle, unwinding in the glass with a youthfully reserved nose of lemon oil and oyster shell, with only hints of the apple and tangerine it displayed from tank, and which I suspect will define the wine at maturity. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, elegantly glossy and incisive, with a classical profile despite the unprecedentedly small crop and a mouthwateringly saline finish. While it isn't quite as electric as the best vintages from this site, the wine is impressive and reveals plenty of upside. - William Kelley

The 2017 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is gorgeous. Sweet, perfumed and light on its feet, the 2017 possesses striking aromatic intensity and nuance. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint, white pepper and chamomile add layers of nuance to a super-refined Chablis that conveys energy and finesse - the two key signatures of this great premier cru site. - Antonio Galloni

This is a wine of power, energy and breadth, made from 3ha of vines in this fine right bank site just south of the grands crus. Like Michel’s village Chablis it’s still an infant, but you can sense its density and power quietly building like water behind a dam. Elemental, brooding notes reminiscent of plant sap and ground stone lurk in that resonant, aromatic inarticulacy, yet its mute force succeeds in seeming concentrated, close-grained and sheer in the mouth.

The 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre offers up aromas of lemon oil, lime zest and honeycomb, framed by a subtle touch of reduction. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, pure and glossy, with more cut and tension than the Vaulorent, without quite matching the liveliness and energy of the Séchet. - Williiam Kelley

Subtle, pure, scented nose combines stone fruits, crushed rock, spices and a touch of flinty minerality. Big and rich in the mouth but still a bit youthfully compact, conveying a dusty impression of extract from its strong underlying minerality. Finishes tactile and long. - Stephen Tanzer

Guillaume’s 2014 Montée de Tonnerre is a brilliant example of this vineyard in a top flight vintage. The stellar nose delivers a youthfully complex mélange of green apple, pink grapefruit, very complex minerality, white flowers, incipient notes of beeswax and a nice touch of flintiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with a fine sense of reserve, excellent focus and grip and superb mineral drive on the very long and impeccably well-balanced finish. - John Gilman
