Grapes come from the Scarrone cru in Castiglione Falletto. 'The soils here are very sandy and high in chalk. It is situated on the same ridge as the Rocche di Castiglione cru with similar soils.' Just mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Compact, complex cherry fruit nose with a peppery prickle and minerally hints. Bags of chewy, gripping tannins framing the tightly stitched, sour-cherry fruit. Big structure. Needs more time to come out of its tannic shell. - Walter Speller

he 2017 Barolo Rocche Rivera is effusive and intensely floral in its first impression. Taut and focused on the palate, the 2017 possesses a very nice balance of mid-weight structure and brilliant, red-toned fruit. Crushed rose petal, spice, leather and cedar are some of the nuances develop with a bit of time in the glass. The Rocche Rivera will appeal most to readers who enjoy linear, vibrant Barolos. - Antonio Galloni

With fruit from Castiglione Falletto (the Scarrone cru to be precise), the 2017 Barolo Rocche Rivera is chiseled and tight with a razor-sharp mineral element that runs through wild cherry fruit, blue flower and light spice. That mineral backbone gives this wine structure and finesse and adds to the vertical or lifted quality of the bouquet. These elegant qualities make Castiglione Falletto one of my favorite villages in the 2017 vintage. - Monica Larner

Intens vin, koncentreret, men udpræget elegant med urter, tjære, roser, violer og en tæt frugt; den er, som en stor barolo skal være. Fantastisk længde – og alt for ung, den skal gemmes 10 år, efter min mening. - Niels Lillelund

New leather, pressed rose, underbrush, dark spice and camphor are just some of the aromas you'll find on this extraordinary red. Full bodied, with depth and finesse, the elegant, structured palate delivers ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and tobacco framed in firm fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity provides impeccable balance and aging potential. - Kerin O'Keefe

Rocche Rivera is a 2.5-hectare parcel inside the Scarrone cru located in Castiglione Falletto with sandy calcareous soils. The celebrated Rocche di Castiglione is located adjacent, and the Pira cru is directly above. Rocche Rivera enjoys an ideal position in one of the best-performing areas of the appellation in this classic vintage. The Figli Luigi Oddero 2016 Barolo Rocche Rivera is stunning, with a level of harmony and purity that makes an immediate and lasting impact. The wine shows pristine fruit aromas backed by wild rose, tar, ash and blood orange. Those aromas hang in perfect balance. The wine is firmly compact and solid in terms of mouthfeel, requiring a few extra years of cellar time to fully unwind. - Monica Larner

Castiglione Falletto. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Fascinating deep spicy savoury fruit nose with earthy and peppery undertones and notes of mostarda di frutta. Supple earthy savoury fruit palate with a layer of sandy tannins. Fills out the palate beautifully without being heavy. - Walter Speller

Red berry, new leather, rose, balsamic aromas of menthol and dark cooking spice are just some of the aromas you'll find on this gorgeous red. Balanced and structured, the elegant palate shows succulent Marasca cherry, strawberry, licorice and tobacco framed in firm refined tannins and vibrant acidity. A salty mineral note lingers on the finish. - Kerin O'Keefe

Crushed aromatic herb, rose and red berry aromas take shape in the glass. The bright, structured palate is still very young, showing tart red cherry, chopped mint and cinnamon accompanied by firm tannins and vibrant acidity. A mineral note signals the close.

Aromas of pressed rose, dried berry, leather, chopped herb, cinnamon and a balsamic note emerge in the glass. The subtle palate delivers dried black cherry, black raspberry, licorice and a hint of tobacco alongside firm, ripe tannins. Enjoy sooner rather than later to capture the remaining fruit richness.

From light, well-draining limestone soils, the 2010 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a beautiful expression with loads of finesse and intensity. This is my favorite of the flight thanks to the great sense of varietal character. Balsam herb, ginger, medicinal herb, blue flower and spice find seamless integration. - Monica Larner
