The 2022 Sylvaner is from granite soils and was planted by Jean's grandfather in 1947. It is fascinatingly pure yet also intense and mineral on the saline nose that is reminiscent of honey and yellow blossoms (broom). On the palate, this is a rich and generous yet spicy, vital and even finely tannic Sylvaner with stimulating salinity on the finish. This is an impressive Sylvaner with character and tension.

The 2022 Sylvaner is from three parcels in Niedermorschwihr, planted in 1947, 1950 and 1956, all on granitic soils with around 50cm of topsoil. There is a subtle savoriness on the nose with crisp chicken skin and melted candle wax aromas, followed by pear peel. The palate is supremely fresh. Jean Boxler thinks that some of the berries that were hit by hail but stayed intact were traumatized by the impact and thus slowed the maturation process by stress, delaying the ripening, so "shocked" berries kept more acidity. This may explain the exuberant, bright freshness here. Lovely, smooth, but so vivid. (Bone-Dry)
