Glowing full lemon colour. There is a little more barrel toast and butter here, reflecting 30% new wood instead of 25%, tried special Damy barrels which he doesn’t really like, what a nose though, a glorious intensity shines through, there is even more nobility, the lime is restrained behind the white apple and pear fruit, the waves of flavour even more impressive. Will adapt fining to manage that nose. Wonderful aftertaste, the best yet in a wonderful range. - Jasper Morris MW
Ripe aromas of jasmine tea, petrol, citrus confit and mineral reduction introduce seriously punchy medium-bodied flavors that are dense and powerful yet refined and intensely mineral-driven flavors that culminate in a bone-dry, youthfully austere and compact finish that is balanced, long and built-to-age. In a word, terrific. - Allen Meadows
The Pierres referred to are Jean-Pierre’s father and his nephew. The wine is made from the top of the plot, old vines of 55 years plus. For this cuvée they pick first the vines with 4 bunches, those with a bigger crop are picked later and put in the regular Genevrières. One third new wood, typically three barrels. The first vintage was 1996 and the idea is to show how far you can go with Genevrières. Clear bright mid lemon. Certainly this shows an extra concentration on the nose. More spice on the palate, a vast weight of fruit which in youth hides the nuances. This takes a while to catch up with the regular in accessibility. Some pears but nothing soft: this is a very well-balanced wine, with excellent acidity which does not show so much because of the weight of fruit. I could almost see this as a Charmes in weight, though Genevrières in profile. - Jasper Morris MW
Old school meursault i mange lag. - Niels Lillelund
The tight, intense and mineral-driven middle weight plus flavors brim with old vine sap that imparts a sappiness to the mouthfeel while buffering the very firm acid spine shaping the impressively long finish. This is terrific and impeccably well-balanced and a wine that should age for a very long time if desired.
