Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru, Rossignol-Trapet

"Domaine Rossignol-Trapet is a producer that has improved dramatically in recent years and to be honest, that is all the more pleasing to see because Nicolas and David Rossignol are two of the nicest winemakers you can meet."
Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate - december 2015

The 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru offers much more complexity and terroir expression on the nose compared to the Latricières-Chambertin, delivering ebullient red berry fruit, crushed rock and light chestnut aromas. The palate is elegant and refined, the oak beautifully integrated, and the appealing, refined red cherry and wild strawberry finish fans out wonderfully. This is a sophisticated Chapelle-Chambertin that will endear itself to many wine lovers. - Neal Martin

I thought this might be more a Latricières year than a Chapelle vintage, but actually this 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin is performing very well. Deeper in colour, crimson tending to purple, very intense fruit in a fresher raspberry style, fills out nicely, some elegance to this, and a very good finish. Pure clean and stylish because it is more restrained in style, with a little touch of velvet. - Jasper Morris MW

The 2015 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a delightful bouquet with generous raspberry and wild strawberry aromas, very floral and exuberant with wilted violet scents and iris emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, crisp acidity and fine cohesion. This is nicely focused, although it just needs a little more substance to "seal the deal" on the finish. It just tapers in a little early and leaves you wanting more. Hopefully that will be addressed with bottle age. - Neal Martin

Lightish crimson. Initially savoury but then sweetened by a gentle oak note on the nose. A hint of something more herbal but not in the least unripe. Supple, fine texture, already so approachable. Real delicacy but no lack of flavour or persistence. Darker and a little more spicy on the finish than at first. - Julia Harding

Good full red. Darker but less perfumed on the nose than the Latricières, offering aromas of black raspberry and licorice complicated by smoke and cocoa powder and perked up by peppery spices. Silky-sweet in the mouth; clearly the plushest and densest of these 2014s to this point. There's more mid-palate stuffing here to support the slightly dusty, late-arriving tannins. This is always a dense wine, notes David Rossignol--"closer to Chambertin in style than to Griottes, for example." - Stephen Tanzer

Mid crimson. Spicy and peppery but redolent of dark-red fruit. Already so open and expressive. Lithe and expressive on the palate too. Lots of pleasure if not grand-cru intensity in this vintage, though it does have impressive persistence. - Julia Harding MW

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru has a lifted bouquet, floral and effervescent with shimmering red cherry and strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, very classy and pure with a caressing, tender but persistent finish that is a pure joy despite its austerity. Rossignol-Trapet's Chapelle-Chambertin seems to be improving in bottle. Just a wonderful grand cru. Tasted September 2017. - Neal Martin
