  • Beskrivelse

Vogelsang Sauvignon Blanc 2018, Herbert Zillinger

On calcareous sandstone – a wine 'we allow ourselves to play with – a wine more dominated by terroir than by grape variety'. Serious stuff unlike any Sauvignon stereotype. I might even drink it! Real structure and more mineral than grassy. Perhaps just a little more Pouilly-Fumé than Bordeaux or anything outside Europe, with a hint of blackcurrant leaf. Good stuff. Great to have this much refreshment from a hot, dry year. Long too. Finely judged and genuinely interesting. No stink to it and no obvious suggestion of oak. - Jancis Robinson MW

The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc Ried Vogelsang is an interesting representative of this grape variety because even many freaks wouldn't guess from the nose that this is pure Sauvignon Blanc. The wine opens pretty pure and spicy as well as cooler than the Grüner Veltliner from the same Ried, whereas the fruit is everything but up front. Fresh and straight on the palate, this is a firmly structured, pure and phenolic Sauvignon with salivating salinity and phenolic grip on the finish. - Stephan Reinhardt

From eight–year–old vines on limestone–sandstone soils, the rare 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Vogelsang Ried Ollersdorfer is discreet, fine and fresh on the brightly scented nose. Pure, fresh and with a vital acidity but not the structure of the Veltliner from the same vineyard, this is a straight, fresh, elegant and filigreed Sauvignon with good grip and tension and the racy acidity of Sauvignon Blanc. - Stephan Reinhardt
