    Rosso di Montalcino 2014, Siro Pacenti

    Lavet på 100 % Sangiovese Grosso fra marker med yngre vinstokke i både det nordlige og det sydlige Montalcino. Druerne er høstet i hånden og grundig sorteret inden afstilkning. Modnet 12 måneder på franske barriques - heraf ca 1/3 nye.

    Meget intens duft af røde kirsebær med masser af florale noter samt sødmefuld røg og vanilie fra fadet. Tæt og saftig i smagen med tørre tanniner og en meget lang eftersmag.

    Flot til vildt eller kødretter med intens sauce.

    The 2014 Rosso di Montalcino is one of the better Rossos of the vintage. Dark, pliant and expressive, the 2014 offers notable depth, with plenty of dark red cherry, plum, mocha and spice notes. This is a commendable effort from Giancarlo Pacenti, and one of the rare overachievers of the vintage. In 2014, Pacenti declassified a significant portion of his Brunello down to the Rosso, and that was after losing 50% of the total crop to bad weather. - Antonio Galloni

    The 2014 Rosso di Montalcino is much more than your standard Rosso. Ironically, this wine has benefit from the difficult vintage because fruit that was earmarked for Brunello was put here instead. The wine opens to a dark and richly saturated color and good aromatic intensity. The bouquet shows elements of black cherry, spice and tobacco. The wine is smooth and silky in texture. If you are looking for value from Montalcino, this wine delivers it in spades. - Monica Larner

    The 2013 Rosso di Montalcino is fresh, floral and lifted, which is to say very much in the style of this late-ripening vintage. Sweet tobacco, mint, leather, smoke and dark red stone fruits open up nicely in the glass. Although not quite as voluptuous as most editions, the 2013 has lovely energy and enough acidity to drink well for a number of years.     Showing a slightly more evolved style and a pinch of extra complexity, the 2013 Rosso di Montalcino is a standout wine for its category. Giancarlo Pacenti has done a terrific job with this Rosso. It shows dark fruit intensity with background tones of spice and leather. There is also a pretty mineral note that distinguishes this food-friendly Tuscan wine. Like the 2014 vintage, this wine drinks like more than a base red. Its taste profile puts it somewhere between a Rosso and a Brunello on the Montalcino spectrum. - Monica Larner
